Move over Tom Cruise. Philip K. Dick’s novella Minority Report which has received a film adaption helmed by Steven Spielberg and starring the aforementioned Cruise and a more-recent TV series adaptation—will be reimagined for the stage as well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the play adaptation comes from actor-writer David Haig  will make its premiere in the U.K. in early 2024. Max Webster will direct.

The adaptation will take place in 2050 and the protagonist (a.k.a. Cruise’s character in the film) will be a neuroscientist named Dame Julia Anderton who is the head of a special police unit that arrests people before they commit crimes.

“I’m really pleased to be directing Minority Report—a story so many people know and love—but which, in David Haig’s thrilling retelling, suddenly becomes a chillingly relevant thriller about law, justice and the power of technology to predict the future,” Webster said in a statement to THR.

Haig had his own statement and said that drafting the play has been “the most exciting challenge of my career: to write a futuristic thriller for the stage, based on one of the greatest sci-fi stories ever told.”

The play will have its opening night at Nottingham Playhouse on February 16, 2024, where it will run until March 9. After that, it has two additional runs already set up: at Birmingham Repertory Theatre from March 22 to April 6, and at London’s Lyric Hammersmith from April 19 to May 18.
